For Transfer Students

You should apply as a transfer student if you have ever taken courses at another college or university after graduating from high school. Transfer students, like you, account for about half of all new students every year at ɫ��Ƶ. We enroll approximately 1,450 new transfer students annually. You’re not alone in this process and we’re here to help!

We’re well equipped to get you in, get you set up and get you on your way to completing your degree at ɫ��Ƶ. It’s not hard to settle in socially either, considering half our incoming students are also coming from another campus and looking for a fresh start.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission staff is here to help you in the application process, and we will evaluate your transcript(s) to decide whether to admit you. You’ll also automatically be considered for a merit scholarship during the admission process. If you are admitted, you’ll be further supported in your transition by the Office of Transfer Services.

Transfer Priority Deadlines

You can apply to transfer before you finish your current college-level courses. You don’t have to wait until the end of the current semester. We enroll new transfers in the fall (September), spring (January) and summer (May) semesters. You will usually get an admission decision from us in about two weeks from when we receive your application and transcript(s).

The following are priority deadlines for submitting your transfer application. Please know that applications arriving after these dates will still be considered on a space-available basis up until the start of classes.

Aug. 1: Fall semester priority deadline
Nov. 1: Spring semester priority deadline

Application Process

You can apply using the or the - Transfer Option. The application fee is $50 and we also accept application fee waivers.

You are required to submit transcript(s) from each institution that you have attended in a signed and sealed envelope, mailed directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admission, 45 Plymouth St., Bridgewater, MA 02325. We also accept electronic transcripts from your previous institution, sent directly to admission@bridgew.edu.

Admission Standards

ɫ��Ƶ uses the provided by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. Transfer applicants are evaluated primarily on the basis of their previous college work and secondarily on any supporting materials that is submitted (e.g. essay, letters, resume, etc.).

To be eligible for admission, transfer students must meet one of the following set of criteria:

12-23 transferable college credits and a minimum 2.5 college GPA; or
up to 23 transferable credits a minimum 2.0 college GPA and otherwise meet the admission standards for first-year applicants; or
24 or more transferable credits and a minimum 2.0 college GPA.

Your college GPA will be calculated using grades received in credit-bearing courses at all of the institutions you have attended. Please note that meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee transfer admission to ɫ��Ƶ.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

�۴ǳ�’v�� worked hard for the college credits you’ve earned. We respect that. ɫ��Ƶ accepts all transfer courses with a grade of C- or above from accredited institutions provided they are not remedial courses.

Most courses are transferrable from accredited two- and four-year institutions. We will accept transfer of up to 69 credits from a two-year institution and 90 credits from a four-year institution. One half of the required courses in your major and minor fields must be completed at Bridgewater. We also require that a minimum of 30 credits must be earned at ɫ��Ƶ.

If you’re admitted, you’ll get a detailed credit evaluation with your acceptance letter. You can then meet with ɫ��Ƶ Transfer Services and they will help you plot transferred credits into your degree audit. They’ll show you what common core, elective and major courses you’ll need to take to complete your degree at ɫ��Ƶ.

MassTransfer Program

In Massachusetts, the Department of Higher Education (DHE) and the state’s 29 public colleges and universities work together to provide numerous programs to encourage and expedite the transfer of credits from one state school to another.
