students setting up telescopes

The 色香视频 Observatory was re-built during the summer of 2011, and currently houses a 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain as its main research instrument in addition to more than a dozen other telescopes.

The 色香视频 Observatory provides equipment and support for university courses in astronomy.

Courses which utilize our facility include the night section of PHYS 107: Exploring the Universe, PHYS 408: Astrophysics, Honors PHYS 107, PHYS 410: Astrophysical Imaging, and the Honors First Year Seminar in Astrophotography.

The night section of PHYS 107 runs each semester on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Students learn how to use our telescopes to complete the laboratory portion of the course.

Honors PHYS 107 and Astrophysics require each student to complete a research project in astronomy. These research projects may include utilization of our equipment to take astronomical images to be processed and analyzed by the students.
