Sheila J. Gibbons earned her BA as a double major in Geography and History from Assumption College in Worcester, MA, and her MA in Geography from the University of Maryland College Park where she explored the relationship between sea-level rise and island community abandonment. She continued this research as a Ph.D. student in Geography at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ONT, Canada.

Prior to a career in higher education, she was a Physical Scientist with the Strategic Environmental Assessment Division of NOAA in Silver Spring, Maryland, and a Senior Program Developer in the Department of Education at the New England Aquarium in Boston.

Her current areas of interest include environmental perception, geography education, sustainability, and helping students understand the role of human/environmental interaction regarding climate change. She teaches, Environmental Geography, Human Geography, Physical Geography, and FYS - Geography of Food and Music.
