Exciting things are happening on the ɫ����Ƶ campus this fall, including the renaming of the College of Education and Allied Studies as the College of Education and Health Sciences.

The switch was made to better emphasize the highly sought after health science majors that ɫ����Ƶ offers, including a health studies degree as well as a health sciences degree with concentrations in areas that include pre-athletic training, pre-physical therapy and pre-occupational therapy.

Dr. Jo Hoffman, interim Dean for the College of Education and Health Sciences, said because health science majors are in high demand it’s important to make it as simple as possible for people to recognize they are available at Bridgewater State.

“Nobody looking up health majors uses a Google search using ‘allied studies.’ We needed to rename it differently to attract students,” Hoffman said. “We wanted to drive prospective students to find the programs they are looking for within health sciences.”

Making it clearer where health science majors  are housed at Bridgewater State helps better define what these programs offer, she added.

“This way we provide more accurate kinds of advising for career choices in the health sciences area,” Hoffman said.

More importantly, as careers in the health sector continue to grow in Massachusetts, ɫ����Ƶ is meeting the demand by preparing students to fill the abundance and variety of positions available in the field.

Input from faculty was sought in the renaming of the college. Once a name was settled upon, the Board of Trustees approved the change.

“We are excited for the rebranding of this wonderful college and its talented faculty and students,” Hoffman said.
