Beyond the Classroom

Internships

Internships provide critical opportunities for communication students to put into practice the theories and ideas developed in the classroom. É«ÏãÊÓƵ communication students have gained invaluable real-world experience at television and radio stations, people-centered nonprofits, magazines and newspapers, government offices and many other work environments.

Clubs and Organizations

Through communication-related clubs and organizations, students hone their skills, discuss new ideas with mentors and peers and make professional connections before they graduate. 

Two student-run media organizations — the weekly newspaper The Comment and independent radio station  â€” give aspiring journalists and broadcasters a chance to build a strong portfolio of work that will serve them well in their future careers. 

Members of the have campus opportunities to create strategic campaigns and access to programs that enhance education and build contacts with professionals and peers.

The at É«ÏãÊÓƵ promotes film and video production and educates members on current issues in media.

The Forensic Society competes in speaking, acting and debate tournaments regionally, nationally and internationally.

Lambda Pi Eta is the official honor society of the National Communication Association. Members of this invitation-only organization work to promote the field of communication on campus.

Study Abroad 

The Department of Communication also encourages students to explore the world while at É«ÏãÊÓƵ. In collaboration with the Study Abroad Office, the department offers short-term (10-14 days) travel courses on a regular basis in addition to opportunities for students to access a range of national and international semester- and year-long experiences. Recent courses have included travel to Italy, Greece, England and the Persian Gulf.
